Premiere
Devious Crimes officially premiered on November 5th, 2024 in room 2524 at St. Xavier High School. The event was hosted by Logan Bauer and Mrs. Heile and advertised in the midday announcements and online. The event began at 11:20 with a brief introduction, watching the actual film, questions afterwards, and was bookended by a group photo. Every male cast member made an appearance apart from Eddie Noll (Douglass Stump). On November 8th, the St. Xavier High School Instagram account (@stx.bombers) and their Facebook account posted the photo from the premiere event. This led to a direct increase in views for the film.

Trivia
Karis Bauer came up with the title as Logan Bauer and Andrea Tiu were on the phone suggesting ideas. From the beginning, they wanted the title to be able to be abbreviated to "D.C.", since the film takes place there. Thus, Karis came up with the title Devious Crimes and it stuck. It was temporarily called "D.C. Movie" before this, and was briefly considered to be titled D.C.: Devious Crimes after her suggestion, but scrapped.
The film is L.A.B. Productions' most ambitious yet. It holds many records:
Length: The film sits at just under 23 minutes. The Time Travel Movie (2018) sits at somewhere around 25 minutes, though the exact length is unknown. It can be assumed that Devious Crimes is longer--and certainly more substancial. This record was surpassed by The Breadwinner 2 (2025).
Cast: The film has 16 members in its cast, more than any other at the time of release. The closest to this number is 8 Guys, 1 Couch (2019), with 12 cast members. This record was surpassed by The Breadwinner 2 (2025).
Location: The movie was filmed in Washington, D.C. Most other projects have been filmed in Ohio, particularly in Cincinnati. Some have been filmed elsewhere, such as in Indiana like Seafood Seekers (2020) and Welcome to Camp Nowhere (2020), in Kentucky like This is Cinema (2024). The only other project recorded out of this midwest bubble was in Florida for Teleportation Kid- Hawaiian Vacation (2019), despite the name of the film.
Time: The film was announced and released in 56 days. This is unusual for L.A.B. Productions--especially nowadays--where films have been revealed and released rather quickly, usually a month in advance at most. The film had begun planning even earlier. Aside from that, time spent filming and editing took way longer than usual as a result of the length of the film. This record was surpassed by The Breadwinner 2 (2025).
This film has its roots in Case Closed (2024), where the film's opening scene came from.
The D.C. trip took place from October 25th to 28th.
Concepts for the film were negotiated immediately after the filming of Stuck in a Philadelphia (2024), primarily about character concepts and names.
The abundance of references to the 1988 film Rain Man comes from Mr. Schreiner, who appears in the film, having used the film in class the prior year. The escalator scene and song are a clear homage to the film. Both Devious Crimes and Rain Man were filmed in CVG airport.
The taxi scene is both a reference to the Family Guy episode "Peter's Sister" (Season 14, Episode 6) with the given dialogue and a reference to the 1999 video game Crazy Taxi, with the music being the main menu theme. The Family Guy quote was also referenced in two AP Family Guy (2024) bits.
"Chantilly Lace" by The Big Bopper plays during Harrison's ad segment due to its relevance in American Hot Wax class, a class Ryan Sams and Logan Bauer took together whilst filming.
The goal with the music was to select "girlboss music" primarily, though there are of course some exceptions. This can primarily be seen with different songs chosen for character introductions--especially for the Tourist, Curtis Simon, and the Chester Bros.
Who is the Miniboss?
Jose struggled with memorizing the name of his company. There were a LOT of retakes on that line specifically, which can be seen in Bloopers | Devious Crimes.
Anna's segment was the last part filmed, on Halloween. This was the only part filmed after the D.C. trip concluded.
Clark County, Idaho, the location Curtis Simon is stated to have been from, is a real place.
Daniel Rahn and Charles Healy's school photos are on clear display in the Chester brothers' lair.
During Gabrielle's part in the credits, Patrick Cavanaugh waves in a silly way at the camera.
The concept of the Chester brothers came from a voicemail left to Logan Bauer from José Cabrera asking to get his roofing done.
