Conspiracy Constructors is about a story within a story. Cornelius H. Argler's hit novel Without a Trace stars an author murderering countless victims as he chronicles the events in his own story. When a group of four kids-- Locke, Maya, Puzo, and King all read this story in class and subsequently see Argler's odd behavior around town, they try to report his behavior to no avail. When no one believes them, they plan to frame Argler for the skeletons in his closet by recreating crime scenes from his book to make him look guilty. The forces combat each other across the span of a month in nail-bitingly astonishing twists and turns that are sure to make anyone want to read juuuust one more page.

There was a "MSJ Contest Excerpt Version" excerpt of the novel that consisted of just Chapter 4 that was sent into a writing contest for high school sophomores through Mount St. Joseph University. The version included an introduction explaining the plot up to that point and then a condensed version of Chapter 4. This version was made on February 9th, 2023. The introduction can be read below:
The following is a small sampling of one of my favorite works, Conspiracy Constructors. This sampling includes Chapter Four: Tensions Rise. Before that chapter commences, it is important to be in the know on the general plot before this chapter took place. / A group of four kids (Locke, Maya, Puzo, and King) are tasked with reading a classic fiction novel called Without a Trace by Cornelius H. Argler, a story about an author’s murder rampage that he first wrote about in a book of his own. Later that night, they see Argler drag a dead body behind a store and throw it into its dumpster. They report this detail to authorities, but no one believes them. / They hatch a plan to recreate scenes from Argler’s book in real life to make him look even more suspicious, to bring him to justice, and to finally be believed. They recreate a scene from the book where the murderer snips all the ties found in a store before killing someone there. The kids only snip the ties, but not before they see their principal buying a blood-red tie for her soon-to-be husband. They manage to not get blamed for the tie-cutting, but later that night on the news, Argler addresses the controversy and shows a subtle hint towards Locke—a hint that he is framing Argler. / I hope you enjoy the chapter!
On August 20th, 2024, Mr. Cahill delivered to Logan Bauer the certificates and other goodies from the competition that he had just been accidentally holding on to in the over-a-year-long span since the competition concluded.
There was also an "Online Ch4" version made showcasing chapters 1-4 that blurred out sensitive details and was released to a broader audience.
The release of chapter 3 on March 24th, 2022 also coincided with the release of chapter 5 of In the Hands of the Bitter through the "Chapter 3 + Bonus" document, though there it states chapter 5 was coming on April 1st, 2022.
